At Fork Union Military Academy, leadership is not about popularity or social status—it is earned through responsibility, integrity, and achievement. Cadets who demonstrate strong character, consistent good conduct, and leadership potential have the opportunity to rise through the ranks, first within their company and potentially to the battalion level. Under the direct supervision of the Commandant and Tactical Officers, cadet officers lead their platoons and companies, gaining invaluable experience in responsibility, authority, discretion, and leading by example.
Beyond leadership roles within the cadet corps, all juniors and first-year seniors at Fork Union Military Academy take a required Leadership Seminar course as part of their graduation requirements. This half-credit course explores servant leadership, leadership science, and character development, equipping cadets with the skills to lead with integrity. As a final assessment, each student presents a case study on a prominent leader of their choosing. This seminar empowers cadets to strengthen their leadership abilities not only at FUMA but also in their families and communities long after graduation.
